March Madness and MLB Spring Training

It’s spring time everybody (even though it may not feel like it with this 30 degree weather)! But, you know what that means… even more sports. My last article had information about the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics in which the US took home 24 medals overall which included eight gold, nine silver, and seven bronze medals.  In conclusion of Super Bowl LVI, the Rams won 23-20 in case you didn’t follow the game!

Currently, the most anticipated sporting event going on right now is March Madness which is the college basketball postseason tournament with the top teams all across the United States. The women’s tournament is slowly coming to an end as the Elite Eight are competing right now. Louisville vs. Michigan and North Carolina State vs. UConn are set to play tonight, 3/28, to determine the Final Four which also includes Stanford and South Carolina. The final games of the Final Four are currently set to occur on April 4th! As for the men’s March Madness bracket, the Final Four games include Duke vs. North Carolina and Villanova vs. Kansas. Both games are set for April 2nd and the final game is on April 4th.

Another highly anticipated spring sport is baseball. The MLB started their Spring Training schedule on March 17th. Teams have one game everyday from the beginning of Spring Training until Opening Day which is on April 7th. The MLB consists of two different leagues, the American League and the National League, based on their location with a total of 30 teams between the two. Teams play approximately 162 games for about six months until the post season which can run to early November. The postseason has many games until two teams arrive to the World Series which is a best of seven games. I really look forward to seeing how this season plays out!
