Young, Almost Broke, and Attending College

Hey y'all!

This is a new column co-authored by Shianne Reaves and Paige Stanley. Like the title, we are young, almost broke, and attending college. This column is for all who have no money (aka me) and want to learn where you can look for some catchin' deals, whether it's for food, entertainment, clothes, etc. When I was growing up, my mom literally had a 4-inch binder she took with her to every store filled with tons of coupons....and I MEAN TONS! We're not suggesting to go that extreme, but I mean if you want to carry around a binder full of coupons, you go right for it! Saving and earning money in college is hard when you want to be more focused and invested in your academics. However, did you know that there are loads of stores and apps that offer discounts and savings just for college students?

ONLINE

Amazon Prime Student: Amazon has the thinking of a college student down to a T. We don't have money, we love immediate access, and we procrastinate… A LOT. Amazon Prime is free to students for six months and then following the free trial is only a payment of $59 a year! Did we also mention that there is FREE SHIPPING IN TWO DAYS TIME. Forgot to order that last minute copy of Gilgamesh a week before it's due? Amazon Prime is right there to save the day, your grade, and your bank account!

Apple Music: I am sure most of you music lovers know by now that Apple music is discounted at half price for students, but if you didn't know this, you get 4 years of Apple music unlimited streaming and dowload for only $4.99!

Spotify: Another one for the music lovers is the awesome package deal that comes with Spotify. Students can get a package deal that includes Spotify, Hulu, and Showtime free for one-month and then it's only $4.99 monthly! Talk about an awesome deal for both music and TV entertainment.

CLOTHES

This app will keep not only your style on the upcoming over your seasons at Ship, but it will keep your bank account from declining.

FOOD

There are so many restaurants that give discounts to college students. All you have to do is see if your favorites are participating restaurants that help give out college discounts for students.

Just to name a few......

Buffalo Wild Wings: If you flash your school ID, you could get 10% of your whole meal (don't be         shy to ask!).

Chick-Fila and Chipotle:  Show your student ID and you could get a free drink (we like free!).

Papa John’s Pizza: Show your student ID and get a chance to get 10-20% off, depending on the location.

Many businesses realize that college students have a tight spending budget. We just have to use our resources and see how many cool deals and savings we can find! Not only is saving money easier to do with all of these apps and local opportunities, but it feels good to treat yourself and help yourself at the same time!

If you guys know of any other college student discounts/deals, feel free to put them in the comments!

For enjoyment, here are memes that only college students will understand 😂.
