Three Relaxing Study Hacks for Home

We all know that college can be super stressful at times, especially for those of us (including myself) that have decided to be an entirely remote student this semester. I personally find it super difficult to not get easily distracted by getting on my phone or just resorting to Netflix and ignoring all my school responsibilities. These study hacks are ways to take a break from doing school work, while still having a clear mind.
  • Meditate
    • Meditating is known for being a type of relaxation that helps one find calmness in their mind.
    • There are many different types of meditation, such as...
      • Mindfulness Meditation: Pay attention to your thoughts as they pass through your mind. As the thoughts pass through your mind, do not judge them; instead, acknowledge them and let them continue to pass through. As college students, this form of mediation can be extremely helpful with the countless thoughts that are flying through our mind. By taking a break from our studying and spending 10 minutes just sitting still focusing on our breath and our thoughts, we can lower our anxiety and stress levels and just be in the moment.
      • Movement Mediation: Let your movement guide you. This is an active form of meditation that can be done through yoga or just taking a walk. Your mind wanders aimlessly, helping your mind lose focus on things that are causing you anxiety. I personally use this form of meditation when I am getting anxious and antsy from all of my schoolwork.

  • Take a Nap
    • Taking a nap can be extremely advantageous and relaxing.
      • After listening to hours and hours of lectures with your eyes glued to the computer screen, you may feel your eyelids getting heavy and your mind becoming groggy. This is the perfect time for a short 10-20 minute nap! Let your body and your hard-working mind relax. We all know that college students are notorious for running off of three hours of sleep and having energy drinks and coffee consume 80% of our bodies, so taking a nap may come in handy every now and then. :)

  • Listen to Music
    • Listening to music in the background can help us keep our focus while working on time-consuming schoolwork.
      • Studies show that listening to music in the background while studying can improve motivation and endurance. As previously mentioned, we can easily get distracted while working on schoolwork, especially at home, but by listening to music and honing our focus we can crank out our work for the day.
      • Slow and soothing music, such as classical music, is proven to be the most efficient and successful for students.
